Who I Am

I’m Alissa Schober (she/her ) and I am the founder of A Healing Connection Therapy, LLC. I hold a Mental Health Counselor license in WA state (LH 61478895). I am passionate about supporting children, adolescents, adults, and parent-child relationships in building the resources, and nurturing the strengths they have, to heal, adapt, and grow. My goal is to support clients in uncovering their inner strengths, nurture their self-compassion, and increase hope for healing and change.

My approach

I strongly believe in the power of our relationships, which includes the power of a therapeutic relationship. I work from a lens that focuses on drawing on each individual’s strengths in order to heal past and current wounds and strengthen connection. I believe in meeting each client where they are at and hold hope for each individual’s ability to grow; part of this is holding compassion and understanding that healing and growing are not linear.  In therapy, I work to create safety and connection with each of my clients by tailoring interventions to your specific needs in order to support you in feeling safe to explore emotions, experiences, and dynamics.

I work to be compassionate and hold empathy, while being direct, open, and collaborative. I incorporate interventions from, and am trained in, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Attachment Theory, and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Additionally, according to each client’s needs, I utilize expressive interventions (art, play, music, books) to further communication, and somatic-based interventions (such as polyvagal theory) to support the mind-body connection.

Professional Background

I have a bachelors in Psychology from Seattle University (2019) and a Masters in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling with a focus on trauma treatment from George Fox University (2021).  I have experience working in residential treatment for children and youth with mental health conditions, therapeutic foster care, and community mental health. Additionally, I have led support groups for teen survivors of sexual assault and helped facilitate parenting programs that work to enhance parenting skills and nurture connection, as well as co-facilitating support groups for LGBTQIA+ youth. I worked my first few years outside of graduate school supporting parents and children under seven in moving through trauma and healing parent-child relationships, as well as supporting teens and families in processing through trauma, such as sexual and physical abuse. I currently hold a Mental Health Counselor License in WA (LH 61478895) and focus my work on supporting individuals across the ages, focusing on trauma, anxiety and depression. I feel passionate and blessed to do the work that I do and I care deeply for the clients that I work with.

Personal Background

I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. I have stayed on the west coast my whole life because I love the diverse experiences that the PNW geography brings; snowboarding on Mount Hood, hiking on the gorge, getting coffee in the rain on the Oregon/Washington coast, and exploring the desert. I was drawn to counseling due to a combination of personal experiences, and passion for supporting others in accessing necessary resources to move out of survival mode and find joy.
